Bobbing off the east coast of North America, Nantucket is an ocean-lover's paradise. Not only does the county boast some fascinating land formations but 84% of its total area is water, making it an ideal anchor point for a 3D wooden contour map. Admire the place once dubbed the 'Best Island In The World' by National Geographic, as well as the neighboring islands of Tuckernuck and Muskeget, and Nantucket Sound. Created by retreating glaciers thousands of years ago, Nantucket has been recognized as a US national treasure since 1966.
The map depicts detailed bathymetric data (“topography of the water”). Made from 8 layers of 1/16" plywood, each layer represents 12ft of water depth. Each map will be unique due to the individual grain of the wood. They are all handmade with great care and attention to detail.
